Our Process

How a Demolition Project Works

Every step matters. Here's how we safely manage demolition projects from planning to final cleanup.

01

On-Site Estimate

We visit the site, assess the structure, discuss any hazardous material concerns, and provide a detailed written estimate.

02

Permits & Prep

We advise on any permit requirements and help coordinate any necessary hazardous material abatement before work begins.

03

Demolition

Our crew arrives with the right equipment for the job. We work safely, methodically, and efficiently to bring the structure down.

04

Haul & Restore

All debris is loaded and hauled to appropriate disposal facilities. We can grade and seed the site to leave it clean and ready.

Common Questions

Demolition FAQ

How do you handle asbestos or hazardous materials in older structures?

Before any demolition begins, we discuss the age and history of the structure with the property owner. For structures built before 1980, we recommend an asbestos survey by a certified inspector prior to demolition. If hazardous materials are identified, they must be abated by a licensed contractor before we proceed. We can refer you to qualified abatement contractors in the region.

Do I need a permit to demolish a barn or outbuilding?

In most rural areas of Mercer County and surrounding townships, permits are not required for agricultural structure demolition. However, requirements vary by township and municipality. We're familiar with local regulations and will advise you during the estimate process. For residential or commercial structures, permits are typically required.

What happens to the materials after demolition?

Most demolition debris — wood, metal, concrete — is hauled to appropriate disposal or recycling facilities. Salvageable materials like steel, copper, and usable lumber can sometimes be separated for recycling or sale, which may offset disposal costs. We discuss material handling options during the estimate.

How long does a barn demolition take?

A typical single-story barn or outbuilding can be demolished and the site cleared in one to three days, depending on size and site conditions. Larger structures, silos, or projects requiring more careful debris sorting may take longer. We provide a time estimate along with the cost estimate.

Can you restore the site after demolition — grading, seeding, etc.?

Absolutely! Because we're also a full-service landscaping company, we can handle the complete site restoration after demolition — grading, topsoil, seeding, or whatever the site needs. This is one of the key advantages of working with PEL: one company handles the entire project from start to finish.
